Projects!

My academic and personal life have provided me with great experiences that have helped further my skills.

Marketing Project

For my marketing class, I worked in a group to create a marketing campaign for Nespresso's new iced coffee. Through this assignment, I learned a lot about what it takes to market something. You have to do a lot of research and also think creatively and outside the box. For our campaign, we decided to promote the Nespresso iced coffee with an Instagram/TikTok ad that featured a celebrity. We wrote out a script for the ad along with our written campaign and research findings. Overall, it taught me what goes into marketing a product.

Another part of this project was working in a group. This was one of the bigger group projects that I did, and I took a lot away from the experience. I went into the group not knowing any of my group members and learned about them through the process of completing this assignment. We were each able to bring different things to the table when it came to creating our marketing plan and ad. For example, one of them is majoring in cinematography, and so she took over writing the script. I realized how important it is to find roles that fit people's personalities when working on projects, as it makes the final result better and stronger. Also, we all lived in different places and were taking the class online, so very early on, we all expressed when we could and couldn't meet over Zoom to work on our project.

This Nespresso project allowed me a great experience in marketing and also working in a group/with a team!

Academic Paper

During my English 200 class, I wrote a paper that was a struggle to write, but ultimately taught me something valuable. For this paper, the professor wanted us to write a paper that had a specific, debatable argument with detailed evidence, and for our analysis to reflect keen observations, showing our ability to do close reading and synthesis passages. My struggles with this paper came when I was looking for my evidence and analyzing the evidence/passages I found. This was because I kept coming across evidence that could be used to support the opposing argument. This led me to scrap the work I had originally done and begin writing a paper for the opposing argument. But I still struggled to write that version of the paper because there weren’t as many passages and pieces of evidence to analyze, and I agreed more with my first argument, and those pieces of evidence kept circulating in the back of my mind. This led me to again scrap my paper and go back to my original argument. And though I had the same struggle as before, I pushed through and wrote a great argumentative paper!

I wanted this paper to have a strong argument and to show I was able to look at a text through a critical lens. And I do believe I was able to accomplish that and would even argue that switching my argument and then switching it back actually benefited my final paper and taught me something valuable. I was able to see both sides of the argument I was making and could argue both sides to some extent. I also realized through this experience that there is not always one correct answer, but sometimes multiple. This is a skill that I believe is valuable in not only writing argumentative papers but also in relationships, group projects, and many other areas within my academic, personal, and eventually professional life.

In both academic spaces and in my personal life, I now view situations from multiple angles, whether it's me trying to figure out how to solve a situation or problem, or understanding things going on in the world. I definitely think viewing something from all angles has allowed me to become a more critical thinker, and that stems a lot from writing this paper!

Creative Gaming

One of my main creative outlets is playing The Sims 4. I have been playing the Sims for almost 10 years now, and over those years, I've been able to express my creativity in the game in a number of ways.

Starting with creating a Sim. This is actually my favorite part of the game, I'm able to come up with a personality, story, and then express those things through my Sims style. When creating a Sim, I love to create their story. Everything from a perfect family to having a Sim who has run away from home and now has no possessions and is living on an empty lot with no money. There are so many possibilities when it comes to storytelling, and it's a great way for me to think outside the box and explore new things.

Through storytelling, one of my favorites is having my Sim start a business. This is something that is new to the game, it came out a little over a year ago. Since its release, I have been able to build, decorate, and run and operate businesses within the Sims. As an aspiring entrepreneur, this has been one of my go-to gameplays. I have created a local pottery studio run by a single mom, an at-home yoga studio run by a Sim who needed a career change, and so many others.

When it comes to playing the Sims, I am able to create unique stories, explore fashion, build and design homes, apartments, and businesses. And actually play with the Sims I've created, where I further their stories through gameplay, explore new things, and experience being a landlord, queen/king, business owner, farmer, and so much more!
